Development studio Bungie boasted that number of is daily "Destiny" players have reached about 3.2 million a month after the game's release, Game Spot reported.
The revelation was made by community manager David "DeeJ" Dague on Bungie's website.
According to Dague's post, over three million gamers play "Destiny" at an average of three hours a day during weekdays and have played the game about 20.9 times since it was released on Sept. 9.
"100 million hours played - enough to watch the entirety of the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy 8,797,653 times. And yes, we are talking about the Special Extended Editions," he wrote.
Dague added that over the course of three weeks since its launch, "Destiny" had more players online than the studio's "Halo 3" and "Halo: Reach" combined, according to PlayStation Lifestyle.
Of course, it is important to take note that in these "Halo" games, players can take on the single player campaign mode without being online. In "Destiny" however, gamers must be online even when playing the story mode alone.
On behalf of Bungie, Dague thanked the gamers for their overwhelming support for the first-person sci-fi open-world shooter.
"We thank you for playing," he wrote. "And, we thank you for the passion and enthusiasm that has mead the 'Destiny' community so strong already."
"It's been amazing to watch your Guardians become legends," Dague added. "Your reactions and your opinions have helped us to make 'Destiny' better over this past month."
Dague also noted that despite hitting a large number of gamers, Bungie will not stop in improving the future features of the game, Polygon reported.
"Pioneering something new is never easy," the community manager stated. "When we see the raw numbers, it's easy for us to say that the destination was worth the journey. Stay tuned for the next evolution of our shared adventure."
