'The Walking Dead' Star Chad Coleman Says Tyreese Is Still In Emotional Tug Of War In Season 5, Finds Filming Out On Location In Urban Environments 'Cool'

It had been a tough Season 4 for Tyreese (Chad Coleman): His girlfriend Karen (Melissa Ponzio) was killed early in the previous season; Carol (Melissa McBride) confessed to killing her; and he witnessed the latter putting Lizzie (Brighton Sharbino) down mid-season. And since the upcoming installment picks up right where the previous season left off, Coleman said that his character is still in the middle of an emotional tug of war.

"Well, you know, we pick up right where we left off, so there's no jump in time," Coleman told Entertainment Weekly. "You catch him right in the middle of it, in the tug-of-war of emotions, just wrestling with it, the push and pull."

He continued: "On one level feeling a connection with Carol for sure with all that we witnessed together, and just the pull of the pain of losing someone who meant so much to me. So he's still struggling. He's still wrestling."

His recent sentiments echoed what he previously said at San Diego Comic-Con last July: "There's no neat little bow wrapped up to the world we're living in - it's complicated."

"It's give and take, it's push and pull," he added, according to Variety.

Cast and crew of "The Walking Dead" are shooting out on location in urban environments for the upcoming season, and Coleman thinks that it's cool to get out of the woods for a second.

"It's always visually compelling, and it's great for those of us who weren't on that journey at that point, to experience that," "The Wire" alum told EW of filming out on the road. "It's really cool, it's just, logistically, it can be a little bit of a nightmare. You know, you deal with the crowds a little bit more, because everybody's obviously curious about what we're doing. But it's a different experience. It's cool for me. I think everybody is kind of like PHEW, just happy to get out of the woods for a second. [Laughs]"

Lead actors Andrew Lincoln (Rick) and Norman Reedus (Daryl) were also asked by TV Guide what they like more: being out on the road or being confined in a certain location like the prison.

"I like being in the woods and being on the move," said Reedus.

"Yeah, I don't like getting too comfortable," Lincoln added. "I don't think that's our show."

"The Walking Dead" Season 5 premieres on Oct. 12, 9:00 p.m. on AMC.
