"Paranormal Activity 5," the fifth installment of the long-running horror film franchise has been delayed, IGN reported.
The film's original Oct. 24, 2014 release date has been bumped off to March 23, 2015. This means Paramount Pictures, the distributor of the film series, will not be able reach its target of debuting the film in time for Halloween.
In addition to the new release date, the upcoming film has a new title as well. The fifth installment is now called "Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension."
With the release of its prequel in 2012, "The Ghost Dimension" was initially set to debut sometime in October 2013. However, the film was delayed and was moved to the following year, according to Empire Online.
The producers did not give out any details as to the reasons why the release date of the film was delayed for a second time.
Gregory Plotkin, the editor of the "Paranormal Activity" films since the release of the second installment, will helm "The Ghost Dimension." He also served as the editor of the series' 2014 spin-off film, "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones."
According to Christopher Landon, the writer and producer of the films, he has plans to create an ending for the franchise. However, he did not confirm if "The Ghost Dimension" will put an end to the series' story, Shock Till You Drop reported.
"It started when we were making ['Paranormal Activity 2']," he said. "We started making this mythology and it worked as a think tank for us. It was really when we were making the third film that things started to crystallize."
"I had an endgame in mind which I had pitched to the group and they loved it," Landon added. "We've been working toward getting to this finish line. But there is an endgame at play here."
