Tom Hardy explained why he won't make another romantic comedy film in an interview with USA Today.
Hardy started his film career with a small role in the 2001 war drama "Black Hawk Down." Since then, he appeared in numerous films and became widely recognized for his participation in "Inception" opposite Leonardo Di Caprio.
He then portrayed mixed martial arts fighter Tommy Riordan in "Warrior" before playing the iconic role of Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises."
Amidst the various action films under Hardy's belt, the actor experimented with a different film genre by appearing in the romantic comedy "This Means War" by director McG.
In the film, which was released in 2012, Hardy took on the role of CIA agent Tuck Hansen. He starred alongside Chris Pine, who portrayed his best friend and fellow agent Franklin FDR Foster, according to Indie Wire.
Hardy and Pine'e characters go head to head after the two realize that they are dating the same woman, Lauren Scott played by Reese Witherspoon. The two then use their CIA skills to sabotage each others' dates with Witherspoon's character.
According to Hardy, "This Means War" marks the first, and probably last, romantic comedy film in his career. Despite being a "fun" kind of movie, the actor didn't enjoy his time working on the film. He said he only took on the project for the sake of doing something new.
"I love to do things I hadn't done before," he said about "This Means War."
"I didn't understand how you could do something which is so much fun and be so miserable doing it," Hardy added. "I probably won't do a romantic comedy again, do you know what I mean."
The actor explained the reason why he felt miserable while working on the project was because he considered himself as the outsider among his cast members, Cinema Blend reported.
After "This Means War," Hardy returned to his usual drama and action films. He recently appeared in the crime drama "The Drop," which is the last film of the late James Gandolfini.
For his upcoming work, Hardy will appear as the titular character in "Mad Max: Fury Road."
