David Morrissey, who played the role of The Governor in the third and fourth season of "The Walking Dead," was reportedly seen in Senoia, Georgia - the set location for the Alexandria Safe-Zone from the comic books. Will the Governor reappear in the upcoming fifth season of the hit AMC post-apocalyptic drama?
The 50-year-old British actor was spotted at a coffee shop in Senoia in the past weekend, and reportedly stated that he was headed to the set to visit friends, The Spoiling Dead Fans reported.
Some people, however, are not convinced that the "Blitz" actor was just simply there to visit friends. Many fans believe that his character will reappear next season as part of a dream, hallucination or flashback of one of the existing characters.
The Governor might appear in Tara Chambler's (Alanna Masterson) dream scenes, Moviepilot speculated. The news site claims that this makes sense since Tara lost her entire family because of The Governor's twisted revenge agenda.
In the comic books, the Governor has a brother, and maybe Rick's (Andrew Lincoln) gang will run into his brother in the Alexandria Safe-Zone, giving way to a possible flashback, Inquisitr theorized.
"Perhaps the Governor and his brother visited the Alexandria Safe-Zone before going their separate ways and maybe his brother is still there," wrote Inquisitr. "It would definitely be interesting to see the survivors encounter a relative of the man who caused them so much pain and suffering."
The Governor was last seen getting stabbed by Michonne (Danai Gurira) and shot by Lilly Chambler (Audrey Marie Anderson), but some fans thought that he did not really die.
Morrissey did not to confirm that the Governor was gone for good when he was asked about his role during a Press Association interview, according to Inquisitr.
"Something happened to him. I feel like a shady politician, where I can't confirm and I can't deny anything," the actor said at the time. "Certainly, bad things befell him at the end of the last episode, but we just have to wait and see."
Executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, however, previously stated that the Governor is definitely dead. But apparently this does not necessarily mean that the character will no longer reappear in the show.
"The Walking Dead" Season 5 premieres on Oct. 12 at 9:00pm ET/PT on AMC.
