Pierce Brosnan, popularly known for playing the famous international spy in a series of "James Bond" films, said that he once considered donning the Dark Knight's mask and cape in Tim Burton's "Batman" film from 1989.
The actor made the revelation during his Reddit AMA. A fan, who imagined the actor taking on the superhero role, asked Brosnan if idea of playing Batman ever crossed his mind.
According to the actor, he met with the director during the late 1980s to discuss the iconic role. Unfortunately, Brosnan found the appearance of Batman a bit ridiculous and passed on the project.
"I went and met Tim Burton for the role of Batman," Brosnan said. "But I just couldn't take it seriously, any man who wears his underpants outside his pants just cannot be taken seriously. That was my take on it."
After passing on the role, Brosnan soon realized how quickly the superhero became a huge part of the film industry.
"It was a joke, I thought," he continued. "But how wrong was I? Don't get me wrong, because I love Batman, and grew up on Batman."
"As a kid in Ireland, we used to get our raincoats and tie them round our neck and swing through the bicycle shed," he added.
Eventually, the director went with Michael Keaton as the film's lead actor. Fortunately, the 1989 film was not the last time Burton and Brosnan's paths crossed.
In 1996, the two met again for "Mars Attacks," according to Cinema Blend. The film is a science-fiction comedy with an all-star cast featuring Jack Nicholson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Tom Jones, Natalie Portman, Annette Benning, Glenn Close, Michael J. Fox and Jack Back.
Despite being known for taking on serious roles, Brosnan said he had fun working with the director and his cast mates on "Mars Attacks."
"'Mars Attacks,' in the company of all these great actors, was a joy," he said. "It was great making Tim Burton laugh. He is an infectious director who just gives you free reign to play these great fantasy movies on his."
Fans of the actor can expect to see him in the spy thriller "The November Man," which will debut on Aug. 27. Recently, Relativity Media, the studio behind the film, gave the green light for the development of the film's sequel, Coming Soon reported.
