The first promo for Lifetime's "The Unauthorized Saved By The Bell Story" is finally here, and we are so excited! Click to see the Bayside High School kids behind the scenes in this exclusive trailer!
The movie is based on Dustin Diamond's tell-all novel, "Behind the Bell," which divulged cast secrets including "sexual escapades among cast members, drug use, and hardcore partying."
The network describes the anticipated flick as "a nostalgic look back at the '90s TV show that changed the landscape of Saturday mornings with America's favorite teens," which "delves into the experiences of six unknown young actors placed into the Hollywood spotlight, exposing the challenges of growing up under public scrutiny while trying to maintain the squeaky clean image of their popular characters both on and off-screen."
The original cast members were replaced for the film. Casting director Robin Lippin revived her role for the flick, choosing a group of fresh faces to play younger Bayside students. Dylan Everett (Degrassi: The Next Generation) will play Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Sam Kindseth (Shameless) will play Diamond, and Justin Works (Paranormal Activity) as TV host Mario Lopez.
As for the ladies, Alyssa Lynch will play Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, Tiera Skovbye (Supernatural) will take on the role of Elizabeth Berkley, and Taylor Russell McKenzie (Blink) will play Lark Voorhies.
This comes on the heels of Gosselaar and his "Franklin & Bash" co-star Berkin Meyer slamming Diamond's "negative" story.
"Everything that I've heard about his book is negative and I don't remember those things," the former Zach Morris said. "My experience on the show was very positive and that's why when people say, 'Oh, you don't like talking about it.' It's like, No, I don't mind talking about it, I just don't really remember that time, and also everything I do remember was extremely positive."
Meyer, who never appeared on the sitcom, chimed in, adding, "That guy is such a d--k. I need to say it. The Dustin thing is just so silly. It's just so negative and it always bums me out."
He continued, "Everyone has nothing but awesome [things] to say about that [show], except for Dustin. That might be you, bro."
