Reese Witherspoon's new role is a far cry from uppity Elle Woods in "Legally Blonde." The Academy Award-winning star plays a heroin addict named Cheryl Strayed in upcoming flick "Wild," based on The New York Times' best-selling book.
In the film, Strayed embarks on a 1,100 mile journey through the Pacific Crest Trail. She is coping with personal struggles, including the death of her mother, a breakup, and a heroin addiction. We see Witherspoon engaging in random sex, drug use, and conversing with an ex.
"What if all those things I did were the things that got me here?" she ponders.
Witherspoon has appeared in a number of flicks, including "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Walk The Line." She is currently filming "Don't Mess With Texas" alongside "Modern Family" star Sofia Vergara.
Other heavyweights behind "Wild" include "Dallas Buyers Club" director Jean-Marc Vallee and the screenplay was written by "High Fidelity" author Nick Hornby.
Strayed praised fans on her Facebook account, writing, "Thanks for all the sweet comments about the Wild trailer! It makes me cry."
