Problem: The sun got to your scalp and now it's super itchy and flakey!
Solution: "Don't worry -- your pain (and dandruff) is only temporary," Russo reassured us.
"To help alleviate the itchiness and flakiness, avoid shampooing for up to 3 to 4 days. This will allow some of your hair's oils to build up, adding moisture to your scalp," he explained.
"As your hair gets oilier from not shampooing it on a daily basis, use a boar bristle brush - or even your fingers - to redistribute the oils on your scalp and hair."
Russo says to massage your scalp with your fingers to work in the oils and spread them from where they are concentrated.
"When it's time to shampoo again, look for a product that contains any of the following ingredients (all of which are great for adding moisture to your hair and scalp): cocoa butter, shea butter, rosemary and chamomile," the expert instructed.
"Additionally, you can give your hair a quick pick-me-up between washes by using Bumble and Bumble's Tonic Lotion ($21). This product contains a mix of vitamins, tea tree oil, and herbs to give even the driest scalps the boost it needs to fight the itch."
