Noah and Allie appeared perfect in "The Notebook," which debuted 10 years ago, but we just learned it was a different story behind the scenes! Stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, who began dating after filming, did not get along on set!
"Maybe I'm not supposed to tell this story, but they were really not getting along one day on set. Really not," director Nick Cassavetes told VH1.
"Ryan came to me, and there's 150 people standing in this big scene, and he says, 'Nick come here.'
And he's doing a scene with Rachel and he says, Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off camera with me?'"
Cassavetes continued, "I said, 'What?' Then he says, 'I can't. I can't do it with her. I'm just not getting anything from this."'
The director conducted a spontaneous therapy session in a desparate ploy for them to get along.
"We went into a room with a producer, they started screaming and yelling at each other," he explained.
"I walked out ... I smoked a cigarette and everybody came out like, 'All right let's do this.' And it got better after that, you know? They had it out."
Though there were still challenges, the work place was better for everyone after that.
"The rest of the film wasn't smooth sailing, but it was smoother sailing," Cassavetes said.
The couple split in 2008 and Gosling moved on with Eva Mendes. We told you last month that McAdams was rumored to be dating Jake Gyllenhaal.
The "Southpaw" co-stars were spotted at Lugo Caffe in New York before heading to Madison Square Garden for the Miguel Cotto and Sergio Martinez boxing match. He wore a baseball cap with jeans and a button-up shirt while the young beauty opted for a little black dress.
Four days earlier they were seen at Pittsburgh's Meat and Potatoes, where they are shooting alongside Lupita Nyong'o and Forest Whitaker.
"They arrived together and sat next to each other," a source told Page Six, who also noted the pair was "in deep conversation. They stayed for an hour at the packed party and looked happy and very friendly."
Other sources insist the stars are just friendly and researching roles.
