Avicii performed at Boston's TD Garden Wednesday night as part of his True tour, where around 38 people were transported to local hospitals. Over 50 were treated by EMS workers before being released to their parents. Find out what the DJ had to say!
EMS workers stated most injuries were due to alcohol, dehydration, and substance use. All injuries were minor, and took place between fans aged 16 through 25. They began assisting around 8:30 p.m., and set up staging areas around 10:30 p.m.
Boston Public Health Commission issued a "Level 2 Mass Casualty" to "notify area hospitals of the potential for 11-30 incoming patients and allow for them to be prepared for that influx."
"We have our detective sergeant, detective and captain talking to officials at the Garden now," Boston police Superintendent in Chief William Gross confirmed. "We will be investigating licensed premise, capacity, everything that goes with that."
"While this is still a developing situation, based on early reports from the venue it appears the majority of the transports were people outside the venue who were too impaired to be allowed inside the venue and access to the concert. Out of an abundance of caution, they were transported for medical evaluation and assistance," a spokesperson for Live Nation said in a statement.
Deputy superintendent for Boston EMS Michael Bosse said a bunch of concertgoers showed up already intoxicated. The venue itself has a one-beer limit, and one worker said there was "vomit everywhere."
Avicii tweeted out a message to his followers about the incident, writing, "Just hearing the awful news abt (sic) tonight. Its a terrible thing, I rly (sic) hope everyone is ok! My thoughts go to those affected & their families."
