Stumped on what trends to take from New York Fashion Week and make your own? Fear not, we have celeb makeup talent Jamie Greenberg to clear it all up. From the red carpet to the runway, this makeup artist breaks all the beauty down with ease:
So Jamie, what are the top makeup trends on the runways at NYFW?
We're seeing a lot of cocoa eyes, taupe eyes, blue eyes, nude lips and some bold lips. For example, Jason Wu, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Alexander Wang, BCBG, and Dennis Basso all used nude colors.
Honor and Trina Turk went for blue.
What about nails? Any surprises or reoccurring themes?
Playing with negative space seems to be a big trend this season. This is where the top has polish and the bottom has polish but the middle has nothing, leaving a negative space. Desigual was a little different, they had floral nails.
How can we make these runway looks work for everyday life?
Most of the looks we're seeing on the runway are pretty attainable, like taupe or cocoa eyes and nude or bold lips. As far as the graphic blues we're seeing, maybe start with blue as an accent only. Use Lupita's latest look from this summer for inspiration.
That should help make this look work for everyday wear. Another option is to use a blue eyeliner or blue mascara, which will do the trick.
Best combination of two trends for the office would be...
I love a taupe eye with bold lips. I think this is especially great if you're dealing with seasonal allergies this fall or in the spring when you're wearing all of these new trends!
It's a great way to take attention away from watery eyes and focus on your other features. A red lip is always a winner in my book, too!
Best combination of two trends for a night out would be...
I love cocoa eyes with nude lips so that would be my pick! You can amp up the eyes to become smoky by adding a little black to the cocoa and follow it up with a nice nude.
How do we make a trendy look uniquely our own?
When you see something you love on the runway, I always say take a piece of what you like and put a conservative spin on it. You can have fun with the trend and you can own it, rather then having it own you! It's fun to experiment with new trends. Take a risk! You never know what's going to stick!
